Hi Richard, I will see what I can do with the Mclaren Team for you. I was at Lime Rock in early September this year and took tons of shots of classic race cars, some of which I have already posted. One of the most interesting cars there was the 001 Chapparal. (the very first one) and it raced too. This was from 1961 a few years before those double winged monsters. Check out my photo "Chapparal 001" also "Jackie Stewart at Work" and "No Time To Wind Down" (John Surtees afer his Mosport win in a Lola) Andre

Hi Andre, I was a great fan of Bruce Mclaren, and his early Can-Am cars. Any pics of his early Can-Am races would be great. I was also greatly impressed with anything Jim Hall did. I still remember the quote (AJ Foyt I think) when he saw the 2C pull into the pits at Watkins Glen .... "Honestly, I thought it (the wing) was part of the trailer!!!!!" Perhaps because of my age, and the accessability of the races, Can-Am had a major influence on me. Nothing in road racing has ever captured the imagination of the North-American public the way the Can-Am did.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the nice comment. I agree with you that some of these shots are like little bits of history that are never fully appreciated at the time of taking the shot. This one for instance. At the time, I was probably a little upset with all the people around, because I was so focused on the car. Little did I realize that I now have a unique piece of automotive history, partially due to the surrounding human element.
I don't think I have any shots of the Lotus 40 because that was one or two years before I started attending races. I did however have a Lotus 40 slot car! (I was a big time slot car racer in my early teens, until girls came along)
As you said, one of my favourite passtimes during a Can-Am race at Mosport was to go and stand under that corrugated tunnel just after turn 1, on the way up to corner 2,2a. When a full field of 7 litre Can-Am cars went over that bridge, I was in heaven!!!
I have many photos in my archives (not yet posted) I'm sure you will enjoy them when I post them. Denny Hulme, Bruce Mclaren, Graham Hill, Ronnie Peterson, Johan Rindt, Dan Gurney, Mark Donohue, Jackie Stewart, Jim Hall, A,J,Foyt, Mario Andretti...... Stop me any time!!
Are there any other cars from 1968 on that you would like to see? I have quite a lot of Can-Am and F1 cars from 1968 on. Andre

What an era!!!!! The early Can-Am races I attended at Mosport were spectacular, and Jim Hall's engineering skill never ceased to amaze. I will never forget the huge wings (also banned)on the 2C I think it was. NOTHING has ever sounded as good as the field of Can-Am, charging through turn 1 at Mosport at the start of a race. Great atmosphere in this pic. It captures more than a car ...... it captures a moment in time, never to repeated. P.S. Do you have a Lotus 40 (the great mistake) anywhere in your archives.

Hi Thilo,
Those girls of the 70's pits all look like they stepped right out of an "Austin Powers" movie. :)

Hi Andre,
I love that blasts from the pasts. and nice to see how the "Boxen Luder" (I would translate that into "pit chicks") looked like in the 70s =)
best wishes, Thilo

Hi Toshi,
No problem, I love going back through my old photos and re-doing them for this site. Actually this Chaparral is very industrial looking compared to some of the cars that Jim Hall built earlier. The Chaparral factory was responsible for developing a lot of inovations for sports-car racing. Not many used automatic transmissions or wings until Chaparral did. More to come.

Hi Andre, thanks so much for posting up this photo! It's truly an amazing race car - I just love the look to it as well as the history behind it. It must've been great to see it up close in person. Thanks again for sharing this rare capture in motorsport history!
