About Thanks to PJ Meish, for identifying the species for me. As a former scientist, old habits die hard! A great website has told me, that this is a female. She is no doubt pregnant, and is feeding avidly, for the impending spider sprogs. Not bad for a mutant!

Once again, thanks very much for your, always, stimulating comments, Roger. I used to be aracnohobic as a kid. I was so soft, I used to run away from creepy things under rocks! The stuff most kids used love. But now, thanks to macro photography, I'm fascinated, and love the diversity and wonder of these creatures. I take both a scientific, and aesthetic interest, in this integral, and vital, part of the ecosystem.

I sent off a comment on this but it didn't get through... Excuse me if something similar later appears alongside this! This is a great macro, but I find spiders rather horrid, and probably won't try anything like this myself. Sorry I misuderstood your comment about my photo with the two cold-hearted young women. I'm afraid that one doesn't appear in my folders, only opposite my name above my photos.

Excellent action shot. Crisp image and good exposure. The webbing between the back legs looks like some electrical charge between electrodes and adds real menace. Maybe you could try some gaussian blur effect to lessen the noise of the background.
