In Remembrance of imageopolis Members

John Joseph Bohner  1950 - 2012

On Thursday, February 16, 2012 our fellow Imageopolis member John Bohner passed away suddenly while photographing on the local beach. The South Bay photographic community was shocked and saddened. John had been a member of the imageopolis.com and the South Bay Camera Club for over 12 years. John spent his career as an aerospace engineer (rocket scientist). He was also a ham radio enthusiast and volunteered service to the Manhattan Beach Police Department and the LA County Sheriffs Department for communications support in emergencies and also planned events.

John enjoyed the photographic flexibility made possible by digital photography. His “pictures of alternate reality” were a delight to behold and his “straight” photographs were of professional quality. He took pride in his photography and was generous in sharing with others his methods and tricks of the trade. Most recently he had reacquired an interest in photographing astronomical subjects. He led a workshop on the best techniques and conducted a field trip to Joshua Tree National Park to capture some of the images.

John is survived by his lovely wife Sharon of 39 years and son Ryan. A Memorial Service was held on February 24. Our camera club was well represented. You will be long remembered with fondness for how much you improved our lives.

Michael Buselle  14 November 1935 – 13 July 2006

Michell BuselleMichael Busselle (14 November 1935 – 13 July 2006) was an English photographer, writer and imageopolis.com member whose photographs and writing were featured in more than 50 books. His first book, Master Photography, has sold over a million copies worldwide.

Born in Sevenoaks, Kent, Busselle showed an early aptitude for portrait photography. Although he initially worked with the Ministry of Defense, in 1957 he quit his post with the Ministry to dedicate himself to photography on a full-time basis. The first few years in his pursuit of a career in photography consisted mainly of assistant positions with various London photography studios, culminating in the opening of his own studio in Covent Garden in the early 1960s. Although successful with portrait and advertising assignments, by the 1980s he began to focus almost exclusively on travel and leisure topics. This focus resulted in several award nominated compilations including The Wine Lover's Guide to France, runner-up for Wine Magazine's Book of the Year award, Landscape in Spain, runner-up in the Spanish Ministry of Tourism sponsored Otiz Ochague photography competition, and French Vineyards, an André Simon Book of the Year nominee.

A fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, Busselle was a regular contributor to several magazines such as The Sunday Express, Connoisseur, and Atlantic Monthly and also lectured and ran photography workshops.

Busselle pursued international travel whenever possible. He was married and had one child, a son.
