About Just a few of the boys working on the basement... Lit with two umbrellas, to camera right and tucked away around the corner by the work bench. I kept the shutter speed high to block out the ambient light (two different kinds of flourescent AND a tungsten bulb) and to keep the light sources from blowing out.

Well done Jon!
Now stop fooling around with the camera and get to work on that basement!
Lots of fun doing this kind of shot.
Were you following the Canadian Junior Hockey team today?

Thank you for this. Looking at it (especially the thumbnail) I am thinking that there are two many dark toned elements so that visually it doesn't "pop" quite as much as it should. From a thematic perspective... hmmm... the unifying element is that I am starting work on a basement renovation (laundry room and shop to begin with).Right now I've got all the old interior walls down and am ready to start framing. But of course there isn't anything in the shot itself to communicate that. I wanted to just show a bunch of guys working together, but perhaps what needs to be happening is that they all should appear to be working on the *same thing* to communicate that.

Thanks very much... good food for thought here.

Happy Friday,

Jon

Whoops... well, there are people who accuse me of not being "all there" at times... LOL... thanks, eh, and Happy New Year,

Jon

It looks like You put a lot of effort into taking this photo. I guess the multiple light sources give it the aura of a theater stage. I wish there was an element or action that would bind these three men together or make Your story flow. Technically it is a good shot, focus and exposure are right, but the timing is off.

Who says men can't multi-task? Great concept that clearly took a lot of thought and setting up. The result is superb. (Minor nit-pick - the guy hammering appears to have a slightly transparent back?)
