Thanks, Andre. No, I actually hadn't made that connection, but it certainly sounds good. The piano and wall behind were lit with a spotlight from the ceiling, giving the impression of a semi circle of light outlining the piano and player. Unfortunately a hard scene to shoot. A flash destroyed the lighting effect, and the exposure was too long under natural light (he's playing, not posing) for a clear photo except with a very high ISO, which even with noise reduction on caused some pretty serious grain effects. OTOH - the texture of it is what I like most about the image, so it sort of works.
Hi Jon, I like this portrait. I don't know if you intended this to happen, but the very dark piano blending in with his dark suit helps to give the impression of the two of them belonging together. The big dark arch on the right top side works well in the composition too. Andre
