City - Mahabaleshwar State - MAHARASHTRA Country - India
About
Taken from Needle Hole Point, this photograph is actually of the lookout point of Kate's Point, in Mahabaleshwar, India. It is also called Elephant Head Point, since it looks like an elephant head. Standing at 1289m above mean sea level, this place gets a good 5-6 meters of rainfall each year!
The hole was caused either by wind or rain or both.
Hi Debarshi, thanks for your comments and appreciation. To photograph the ghats and the valleys, a 3-4 day jaunt to Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani should be appropriate. You can visit the Mahabaleshwar downtown, they have an amazing tourist map for sale, really gives you the birds eye-view perspective of the entire place and all the points in question. From Mumbai, it might be a two hour drive to get to Mahabaleshwar during winter (In the monsoons, the entire place is shut off due to landslides and cloud bursts - the place gets 5-6 meters of rainfall each year). Also expect prices of everything to triple or quadruple during summer.
Excellent work Ashutosh. I would love to go there and photograph this place. Everytime I visit Mumbai I dont will the site of the Western Ghats from the aircraft. Its awesome. Can you tell me a few places from where I can photograph the Ghats as well as those canyons ? And also let me know how long it takes from Mumbai to reach those places by car.
