About Taken at the beach yesterday in sunlight around 6 p.m. Ordinarily I'll wait a bit longer for the sun's rays to soften but, in this instance, I liked the play of light and shadow with her hair. Thanks again to those of you who provided input on the previous upload about toning. David Hofmann and Carlos -- I have your marching orders.

She is the daughter of our dear friends David and Marci A., and this will be the second part of my thank you gift to them. David is the one who tapped me on the shoulder while I was socializing at the coffee house and took me over to the scene which became "Chess." He stood by and kept the children from running in front of me while I was shooting. Thanks again David!

hello Antonia! I?ve been looking at this portraits for days now, I love everything about it and every time I look at it I get speechless!
A wonderful dedication to your friends who helped you out
One minor thing, the tones are a bit too red? Magenta? But that is just my own humble opinion

Wonderful portrait Antonia, lovely shadows in her hair. I can vaguely remember the time when I had hair across my face .... I think I was about 4yrs old at the time ;-)

The toning is also great :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

Hi Toni,

Lovely. Full of life and zest. Children are always adorable.

regards,
ken.

Please Note - I sent the following email today to elephantdreams@lycos.com

Dear Antonio,

Thank you for providing permission to use your "youth" image in my website.

Infact, I have taken the oppertunity to use few more images in the same portifolio. I have provided a separate portifolio for your name just like Alison and Titia, the other two usefilm friends.

Please take a look here -

ww.kentheteaman.com/toni_bauerleinsehnert.htm

I think you are a wonderful photographer and come up with sumptuous images. It will be fitting to use them in Tea & Sympathy portifolio.

If you do not want me to use your images then I will remove them immediatly. On the other hand if you like, just like Titia and Alison, you could give me permission to use your images from Usefilm.com to be used every now and then.

PLease let me know.

regards,
ken.

:) Thanks Margaret. It's interesting to me that I was motivated to do the 4-up version first because I liked the way the motion of her hair was accentuated there and was not sure the image was stand alone. Apparently I was wrong about the last part, and I'm so glad people speak up. Antonia

Coming late, I can only affirm the praise of the others: this smile, behind her hair, what a wonderful photo !
Unmistakeable... no. I would call it adorable, or bewitching, or... mysterious. It is extremely effective to hide her eyes and mouth partially, a photo that looks professional.
I think you played a lot with tones and toning, and you really hit the nail. I would not change a thing. Your choice of pose and crop is excellent, this goes into my favs !
Regards;
Carsten

Hi again - thanks for explaining how you thought about this - it makes perfect sense to me and the result is certainly very much what one would hope for with the vision you had. It reminded me a little of a now old shot in my portfolio: http://www.usefilm.com/image/302838.html - totally different mood but they share that unruly hair :-)

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30599} 5/10/2005
Hi Stefan, thanks for clarifying. I didn't want to add more contrast to the image and by dodging the highlights I thought the added sparkle might make up for the lack of whites in the image. My intuition usually tells me that if there are no pure whites that the image will lack a certain "luster." So I'll dig 'em up where I can find 'em, so to speak. Your comment about contrast doesn't surprise me under the circumstances. We'll call you "eagle eyes." :-)
Antonia

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 5/9/2005
Hi Antonia - I usually don't wrap my comments in a caveat and a half-apology, the issue is more that I worry about my own photographic sensibility when I want more contrast in a really wonderful shot such as this... The highlights in the hair are indeed what made me think of sharpening - dodging them seems counter intuitive to me but then I am not going to argue further about the result :-)

  0

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30599} 5/9/2005
Stefan, never worry about saying what you are thinking on mine...your every nit is important to me...it's the only way to "see" what others see. I don't know how you are, but I often feel a certain degree of trepidation when proferring my nits the first time to someone. Your criticisms are safe with me...lol. I don't recall sharpening this one, but I did dodge some of the highlights in her hair which may be the issue, and I'd like to know that from you. Thank you! Antonia

  0

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 5/9/2005
Wonderful with just one eye and a smile visible though all the hair. My preference would have been a little more contrast and a little less sharpening, but we are talking small units here. Saying that I feel like the photographic version of a musician with defective hearing :-)

Perfect! Charming, luscious, the tone rich, just so! The size presents in my monitor the intimacy, familiarity, all successful portraits must have ? a beautiful child photographed with insight and playfulness ? we sense the complicity, the relaxed vibe between photographer and model. Yes, this is a fine one Antonia.

Hi Toni. I have to agree with everyone else. The hair across the face really makes this shot. I hate to use this word on such a young little girl, but it almost has sexy playfullness to it. Whatever word you use it's a compelling photograph to look at. Your daughter (?) I assume.

I want to thank you again for your critiques and very kind words about my work.
