About A few feet from the "Sunburst," recently posted. These and the dance shots were from the Lucas Theatre. Many southern towns and cities had such 19th century "opera houses"--essentially for the various musical, dramatic, vaudeville, and burlesque touring circuits. This one is very modest in scale but very nicely restored. (Handheld, available light, ISO 1600, 38mm, 1/25 sec @ f4.0, PS: crop, levels and sharpen)

Great detail George! You really know how to capture the Southern architecture. It's interesting to see a hole like that in the celing. Kind regards, Rafael

I always wondered about that, why do you put a hole in the ceiling, especially when there seems to be a floor above. very beautiful can feel the richness of the building in style and colors.

quite a nice particular; better if in diverse light conditions though but may be not easy to have it ;-)

Interesting building. Very nice work of art up there in the celing.

George,

The link you provided didn't work. I wonder what was it for?

regards,
ken.

No, Paul, no compensation--drat! It is a very pretty building--not quite as old as I thought. It seems to have been built in 1921 as a movie palace. I had assumed it to be earlier because of the stage house--typical of the 19th Century touring stops. It was used for vaudeville, though, and that explains that. --g

Going by your picture it certainly is an area worth visiting, are you paid by the local tourist office!?
Lots of nice art nouveau type twirly bits up there in the hole, is the building that old? Looks a bit dangerous if your on the floor above, can't see anything to stop you falling through after the interval drinks!!
