Location City -  Ellis Island
State -  NEW YORK
Country - United States   United States
About Subject background: Ellis Island, the small island in front of Manhattan, was the gate for millions of immigrants into the US. This shot is made in one of the hallways where the people had to walk through the central building to their next series of tests. Idea was to use wide angle to show the sterility of this place, the uncertainty and the long way the immigrants had to take (to make the tests).

PS concept: actually, just a mild crop. everything you see is right from the cam (color, wide angle, vignetting etc.).

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated.

I think the germs are always represented by he color Green. I can see how clean and steralized this hallway is. It is a nice picture with the depth feeling and reflections. Cheers.

Nice work, one thing that draws my attention is that the lower left part isnt in symetry.

Nice perspective, Thilo.

Could have tried to line up the corners with the diagonals, but I know how hard that is, and it's a worthless nit-pick from me.

That guy leaning against the wall deviates from the mood implied by the title, for me. He gets a lot of the eye's attention because of his placement in relation to the lines, and the dark tone of the clothes, in contrast with the rest of the shot.

The use of wide angle is perfect fits good with the idea that u want to comunicate, acid colours too.
I like it.

This is great Thilo, I saw the colour and even without focussing on the composition I immediately related it to a hospital !

Great capture - the sole person waiting for news of a friend ... an expectant father maybe ?

Great atmosphere and very well seen and captured :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

Hi Thilo,

Ewww...i can smell the rubbing alcohol already!! This depicts the feeling I get in hospitals...(you said tests and i automatically thought medical tests..is that what you meant?)
Youve portrayed the place perfectly...not exactly somewhere i'd like to hang out for an afternoon.
I love the composition, and the green tones. Good work! :)

Hi Thilo, this reminds me strongly of the film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". It portrays the ghastly atmosphere of the asylum and its grim and depressing outlook on life. Very scary, butr well captured.

Cheers,

Hugo
