I am so glad you noticed that! In fact, it is truely a confluence of two styles of architecture - one, the classic Dravidian architecture, which you see in the south Indian temples, and second, the Nagara style, as you see in Orissa! There are few on both styles, and one which is a combination of the two!
If one has a passion towards history, Patadakkal is a real treat!
Nice capture Narayanan. The temple seems to be in different school of architecture, when I compare it with the Hoysala style or the classic Dravidian style temples of Tamil nadu. The curving of the dome reminds me of the famous curvilinear style of the temples of Orissa, of which the Lingaraja temple at Bhubaneshwar is the most prominent specimen. Since you have been to Patadakkal may be you could throw some light on the architectural style as well as the time when this one was constructed. regards, anurag
