About This was one of the first pictures that I'd taken with the Canon 300d. I wanted to see how well it could cope under very low light conditions. The camera was set to 1600asa and the shutter open for about 15 seconds.Due to resizing some of the detail has been lost but in the original it is possible to make out the elipse of the Andromeda Galaxy. I found the results very surprising as I live near a busy airport and light pollution is very bad. I do intend to find the time to visit a truly dark site and do a bit more experimenting.

Thanks Steve, sorry but have been at work all day. Would have loved a pint pot of tea at the corner cafe, especially if you were paying :)

Hi Ryan, this is the same image but with the levels boosted up somewhat. I have also tried to enhance the area around M31 and it is just possible to see a fuzzy elipse. The 300d seems to be gaining a lot of popularity amongst astro imagers. There is an outfit that advertises in S&T the 300d with the IR filter removed specifically for astro imaging. Thanks once again for your kind comment Ryan

Andromeda? Really? I'd be interested in seeing that. I see you suffer from some light pollution, but this picture is pretty good considering.
