Is it just me, or is matching a really cool sky with strong foreground just the bane of every photographer when it comes to shooting this kinda of shot? It seems every time there's a great sky I have nothing to put in front of it and every time I have a great location I have no sky. I think this may be why I like fog so much.

Anyways, the other thing that may help is to try using an ND grad filter to expose the ground a bit better and balance the image. Past that, I can't offer advice 'cause I've never even used the filter myself - I need to take my own advice.

thanks for the tips guys and gals:)

i also agree about the foreground with its lack of direct interest.

as for the sharpness...the real slide is, of course, better...but i still notice a lack of sharpness in even that. i found out after shooting the roll that my 28-80G lens (i'm REALLY starting to not like that lens! heh) doesn't focus well...when put to infinity, it's actually out of focus for a shot like this and you have to twist it a tad to get it into focus (low light, couldn't tell if it was in true focus when i took the shot, so i just put it at infinity and my results weren't as good as i had hoped)...and the focus ring is very flimsy and loose, it always shifts position as a change the angle of the camera.

but despite the technical difficulties, that day brought a sky i will never forget:)

I agree with Kenneth regarding the fg interest could be a little better and a little more sharpness in fg area. But I like this alot John, its very soft colors and pleasant mood make it a very nice image. Your work is really coming along!

Nice! Wonderful colours in the clouds and good exposure for some detail in the shadows. The composition is okay. But I think a single element in the foreground would really help. If you can't find anything, try putting yourself in there.
