Hah...I remember this one, Julia (hiya!!:) I see warmth and maybe just a *little* bit of humoring to the look you captured. :)
Regarding Mary Sue's comment, I agree that it's starting to get a bit hot in the left side of his face. I didn't recall seeing that problem in the version I saw elsewhere (believe it or not, I've remembered it over the months) and went back to check it...indeed, it shows up a little hotter and not quite as contrasty on usefilm. :(

Very nice job on this potrait. This could be my monitor, but it looks like there is a bit too much light on the left side of his face (camera right). If I had to suggest any improvement regarding distractions, I'd suggest cloning out the uneveness in the background: those stripes on the upper left pull the eye away from your main subject. I am very impressed though, I'd never be able to get a portrait that is posed but looks this natural!

A wonderful portrait that you should be proud of. The lighting seems very even and natural and I like the nice big catchlights you got in his eyes. The hand in the lower left corner seems unnatural though... maybe a different placement or if we could see more of it? All in all, I think you've got a winner.
