Thanks John, this was taken off the deck of a 30 foot tower I am working on. It has 360degrees of view but this is my favorite. It snowed that morning and everything was covered with snow, including me!! The front trees are the last of a ridge before it connects to the Basin. Thanks for the detailed comments and for your kind encouragement.

Amazing quality, I can see the details into the trees however... I can ALSO see good details at the trees of the BACKGROUND!!!!!!!! I like the feeling that the trees of the foreground trying to make some kind of...a natural fence between you and the mountains.
Excellent "clear" shot.

Where is your new job Pam? I would think that the nurse job areas would still be promising compared to much of the job market. My work as a self employed builder has dropped to almost nothing. I would love to put this picture together for you to have and hold. Have you sold anything on the Redbutton site? I was contemplating trying that and some others as well. You have a great Christmas and please do not get lost with that new present, wink, wink!!

This is it, Stan. This it can only be. To "see what is around me as I travel in my daily life". There is much much more deep but unspectacular wisdom in this statement. And thus it is deeply human - humanistic. One of our good poets said more or less the same. "Don't forget the destination of your journey but still take time for the journey itself."
I myself was given the opportunity to see what such a storm can bring. My uncle and my aunt have such a country place - they are growing grapes and making wine. (Some images of that place will be on the way to UF some day in future.) I was there one late summer day, just one day before harvesting. The storm came, the hail fell, the harvest was... history. The whole work of a year destroyed in some minutes. Of course I was rather smashed down as my uncle and aunts and all the guys werr that were working there. But.. the sighed and said: "Such things may happen too. You can't fight the weather."
Their ability to just accept life with its highs and lows impressed me deeply. I saw more humanism there than in many of the bloody TV-shows that speak about such things. ;-) For they only speak, but that guys out there *live* this way.
Wish I could match them just a bit. Yes, they may be much more conservative than others, and have their problems with many things that are considered as "normal" elsewhere. But this doesn't diminish at all the value of the way they stand over such things in everyday life. "To laugh with funny things is easy, but to laugh with the own misery is philosophy", as we say in Greek.
Sigh, I am thinking aloud too much, I see. ;-)

Yes Nick, thanks for the thinking out loud. Mirrors many of my thought as well. We in fact had a very damaging hail storm in July that did much damage to structures, including mine and the crops as well. Much of the wheat in my area was 50% less in production because of it. I am glad that you see my POV with many of my images. It is a visual history of how I see what is around me as I travel in my daily life. Things that have stood the test of time and some that are slowly disappearing from the landscape. Have a great day, your friend!

Oh yes, that's for sure, Stan. I lived for many years in "far back" villages up the mounts here in Switzerland and it was really another world. It is not the usual myth that many people seem to have in mind, you know, in the sense that... the "cowboy" has much much less to do than "we, here in the city", and that it is always "serenity", or that life is only easy in that world. I am a city rat myself, but it gets sometimes on my nerves when some people from a city visit such a place and think that they understood it in some few days. ;-) I mean they keep on saying that "time is flowing much more slowly" in such places but let a heavy hail come exactly one day before harvest and then let's talk again about how "slowly" time flows there. ;-)
So, also from this points of view it is good to also have many contributed images of such places, since they widen our horizon. Especially when it comes to real good images like this and many others that you keep on posting. This (perhaps) helps also recognize that in reality we feed on the work of such people out there. Let them all strike for just a few days and watch the panic in Wall Street, ey? ;-)

But now that you referred to rodeo.. well, another event with a very fast series of events, while the guys ride (and fall ;-)).
BTW, the mounts are more "stationary" - they seem to provide the touch of "for ever" to some landscape. There they stand and care not a bit about our fast lives.

Yes Nick, but our streets are much different than in Europe, especially in rural Montana. This part of the country is slow to change compared to the urban life. Our life evolves around livestock auctions, Rodeo, mineing , timber cutting, tourist and surviving winter.

Thanks Ania, this was what we call a Blue Bird day. The sun was shining after a 24 hour snow storm. Everything was coated and it was heaven on earth to me. I see what you mean, Stan. Same goes on for me too when I stich. It can get really tough but it is also a nice work to do.
Here the overlap worked perfectly. If you show it somebody without telling about the stich, it could also be taken as a crop of the original image. It is not only that the deetails fitted so well, but also the uniform lighting/tonig throughout the image. The latter is also hard to achieve since there will be always some differences between the two shots. But the componentes of this one really look as one.

Thanks for the detailed comment Nick. Glad that it had a positive impact on you. When I stitched the two images together I was a little limited in what I could keep towards the bottom of the image. It was such a large task to try and get a good overlap as I was shooting to also get the foreground deeper. I was really trying to give glory to the peaks as my main subject. I had telephoto going on to get the mountains as detailed as I could. So glad you liked it.

Yes Harry, for a hand panned to shot panorama I was really pleased at the results of this small camera. Pretty nice for 3.3 mp. I think the Bears are sleeping well by now. They would not be pleased moving around in the deep snow..

Have fun at the Beach RG, I waxed my skis for the new snow. Supposed to be -20f by Monday here. 15" of snow in the mountains By tomorrow night I will go skiing after it gets up to 0 or better. Usually there is a temperature inversion when it gets cold and clear after a storm. glad you caught my view. Hugs back and be well, GG

What attracted me so strongly on the thumb was the amount of details and the coloring I expected to see on the big one. And indeed, I see it! The excellent strong contrast between the snow and the green of the trees in such a rapif progression is dizzily attractive. It supports the 3D-property, the relief of the image so strongly! (The glasses almost fall off my specs!) The details on the far background mountains and that color of the sky complement the overall image - vivid, alive! Not to speak about the white snow that remained really white - and that's never as easy as it may sound.
I would woshe to see some little more continuation toward the bottom, the ground where the trees "start". This could enhance its geometry, I guess.

Hi Laurie, good to hear from you. I am working within a mile of these peaks. They are awesome to have to stare at all day long. The snow is already 30-36 inches deep in this area. It is going to be a very white Christmas. I will post some more of this area tonight.

Thanks so much Mitra, this area is right out the window from a big tower I will be working on for a while. It was cold and clear yesterday and the snow was fresh. Over a foot fresh on top of about 2 foot more. The basin was probably about 4 foot of snow from the last few weeks. Have a great day.

Thanks so much Saad. This was shot with my point and shoot yesterday where I was working at. I hand panned two shots and stitched them for the wide view. The Snow was over my knees where I was working at. I will ski in here in the near future. I will be working in this area for a couple of months. Thanks for the nice comment.
