Thank you so much for your kindness and willingness to help, Stan! Surely I am interested for the program. Is is for a Mac too? I have a Mac, you see, and if the program is for a PC I won't be able to use it.

Thanks a lot again!

Nick

Hi Nick, thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. I have two disk of this program, would you like one of them. It is a handy program for organizing images and some basic editing. I really like the stitch program, and prefer it over the CS2 photoshop I have for stitching. I only need the one in case I had to reinstall. Let me know if you are interested.
Be well and have a great day, Stan

I see, Stan! And I assume also no small stones or other "details" distributed over the surface of the scene. Then... it can get really good to catch both the details of snow itself in the near and the details of the scenery far away. Some glittering snow crystalls in front of the background landscape for example. But of course I also know that it depends on the direction of the light and also on the duration of exposure. (The latter being the time that the photographer is exposed to freezing temperatures! ;-))

About the stiching programm, it seems to be really good software. The tool in my version of PS (elements) will do hardly a good job. Most of the time I have to do the stich manual, unfortunately. Is your also available without a camera of Canon, as a standalone utility?

Cheers and have a great weekend!

Nick

Thanks Nick, I do appreciate the thoughts and suggestions as well. This area is without trees and is fairly barren. The wind blows through this valley and the sage brush and grasses are about all that can stand up to the wind. Glad you liked the stitch or lack of seeing it. I have a program that came with my Canon that has a good stitching tool in it. It seems to do a much better job than in photoshop. Thanks for your comments and good wishes.

Thanks a lot for the info on the making, Stan!

The final "product" alone is never as understandable as it is along with the story of its "production". You know, all those "little things" which make us do something, but which also remain unknown most of the time. I can completely see what you mean about the colors and the formation of that cloud. Many times I stood in front of such sights up on the mounts around here. And the mounts always know how to make themselves at least noticeable, ey? ;-)

Perhaps... a good way to introduce some "implicit" leading lines would be to take the image from very very near the ground, include the horizon and use hyperfocussing under a wide angle? Of course, if there are no leading lines there, then they can't be on the image either, but the difference of the size of details between the very near and the very far sometimes seems to add some "imaginary" of "implicit" (as I call them) leading lines to the image. Just my own personal observations and nothing more, that is!

Oh, and not to forget! Your stich worked perfectly! I can't see any stich at all, which is always the very best stich!

Take care and here's to you!

Nick

Hi Nick, this was a stitched image of two panned images by hand. The clouds were forming so quickly I pulled off the road to be able to capture it before the hills would obscure it. I see what you are saying about a leading line but alas these hills were non descript for the possibility. I just liked the colors and spontaneity of the fast forming cloud, so simple won out this time. I was happy with the stitch which went through the right side of the big cloud.

Good concept for a simple and quite elegant panoramic, Stan. Simple in details and also in composition and color palette. The good DoF did allow all details to form sharply and vividly on the image. Ony the cloud seems to be somehow softer in contours than the rest of the image.

The composition is simple and nice, yet it somehow fails to make the grandiosity of the scene really impressive. What does it miss? Perhaps some strong sense for direction? A leading line or such? Anyway, the exposire balance was just about great again for getting white snow and real blue heaven, and also the subtle light transitions that generate the impression of a real 3D-relief of the ground.

BTW, was that a stich?

Cheers!

Nick

Thanks Gary, this was a very dramatic and quick forming cloud. It formed in a matter of minutes. The sun was out and the snow was melting fast. We can get some dramatic weather changes here in the Rockies.

Looks like a portent of things to come. You've done a great job with the merging, I assumed it was a crop till I read your reply to Ray.

Thanks Ray, shooting in snow cover is a challenge. I was really happy with this merge of two images. It was a hand held pan. I do not have the special panoramic gear so I just wing it. Sometimes I even surprise myself. Thanks for your kind comment and encouragement!!
Be well, a friend across the big blue sea.

Thanks Gust@vo, I appreciate the nice comment and your time. I pulled of the road to capture this thunderhead as it was rapidly rising above the hills.
