First of all, it is always exciting to get an insect in flight! What I find intriguing is the repetition of the echinacia florette pattern in the butterfly wings! Eb

Fortune favors the patient, it seems. Especially when they have pre-focused and wait for butterflies! ;-)
But seriously, Dave, you just grasped the opportunity perfectly!

I like the effect created by the wing motion. I am ready for some colorful subjects to film, I am tired of winters drab colors. Del.

Hi Nick, thanks for the comment! This shot was a combination of luck and opportunity! I was shooting the butterflies on the flowers and hoping to get a shot like this, so was ready and had focus set on a likely flower for an approaching butterfly. Dave.

This one is a real dreamy one, Dave, and I use such words very very sparsely! I see the great lightand tones of the flora, and especially the great details of the front flower, but this time not from my own perspective, but rather from the perspective of the flying insect. And so I am transferred to its worls and its views, which is much much stringer than to observe the world like an intruder. In this case I identify my own self as an inhabitant of that microcosmos! The image unfolds in front of my eyes like a day in another world!
And so we see that the macro can be expanded for not only defining some certain object but also telling a story. Most macros have just a little to say in matters of composition, but not this one. It is a small scene with all its actors, scaled up and turned visible. Much like street photography the timing was also important. And about this I want to ask you Dave, how did you manage to get that? Were you just waiting until that pilot set the right course and approached the flower?
Great work!
Nick

nice colors and... oh my, that is difficult, to take a shot of a butterfly flying... nice one, impressive focus on the antennas - head... and what a surprice! that looks like needs even faster exposure wow... after that I must say congratulations about the aperture, what a great shot with a so big aperture, that means you had here minimal depth of focus and that makes the work even more difficult... BUT... you manage that photo very well Dave...

Well said, at least you had some left over. Super timing on the inflight shot. I like the way you cropped the shot, and the landing gear is clearly visible. Very nice Dave.
