This shot has some great elements in it. The most powerful being her face. Might I suggest cropping the upper wall somewhat to enhance the impact of the feeling emanating from this image. With a portrait, in my opinion, the less distraction from the person the better, unless the background increases the power of the moment. Which the upper wall to me does not. I also cropped the feet in the example, again to draw more attention to the face. I hope you don't mind my making some suggestions.

Great image, Dave! I am not sure about the piece of bicylce in the frame but the expression and pose is remarkable! The slightly diagonal seating seems to accentuate her frailty!

Choosing B&W adds to the feeling of dispair she must be feeling. This is a very emotional shot. Very well captured. Del.

You captured reality Dave...in it's starkness of black and white. The image draws you in and forces you to have some sort of feelings. Truly an image worthy of remembrance...much more than any nice little flower picture(referring to mine of course!) Well seen and portrayed Dave. Regards--Bill Voizin

The intensity of sorrow and desperation is incredible! Such images do not show the "nice" but bitter reality. And as it goes there are not many better things than exact focus for capturing the details in which real world is hidden.

I must be very careful here, to not start talking too much about contrasts and lightings and forget that this is an image of a real human that suffers. But perhaps it will be allowed to me to say - keeping all respect in front of that old woman - that the difference of dark and white supports her importance on the scene.

A big fat 7 for this excellent image - both in the techical and above all in the documentary sense.

Cheers,

Nick

sad situation,we use to see it evrywhere (when we notice them).i cant avoid trying to compare picture of beggers from different places and i think the similarity is the helpless and the loss of pride.
in your picture we can see those elements on the women face. that what make this photo be more meaningful from other that i saw .
it is good deed to raise this reality from time to time among community that dont know poverty or shortage.
7+++ pic of the day for me

Excellent portrait Dave, old people are always welcome in portraits and so here that old lady, nice shot, it's great for a snapshot, as she pose - seatting well for a good frame! hmmm....a frame that include the biciqle could be also nice...just a though as I want that part of the biciqle wheel, excellent my friend.
Best regards!!!!!!!!!!
