About Today was my first day of playing with the D80. Out of 100 or so shots this morning, I had about four that I printed. The surprise was that the prints looked much better than the images on my monitor.

Andre, Ken Rockwell (dot-com) says you can have a new Nikon 10mp D60 by Christmas,.....LOL!

Hi Kes,
A couple of years ago, I was saving for a D100, then it was a D70, that turned into a D70s. Now I'm looking at a D80. I was also thinking about a Fuji S3pro because of the Nikon mounting system.
In other words, I'm probably not getting anything in the near future. :(

I like this shot, Kes - and do not at all feel critical about the tight crop at the girl's head. I thought that maybe you could crop more but you would lose some of the foliage.

Hi James, thanks so much! Yes, quite fortunate! It's been a lot of fun so far. Unlike the recent film cameras I've been using, even with some attempt at moderation, the D80 has been liberating. :)

Oh, Andre, this is just a shot of a red leaf! :)

heh heh

...went out tonight and took 40 more (200 of that 1000, so far)...got a couple keepers...

...and also earlier took 2 shots with the nice zeiss folder...I'll let you know if they turn out ok in a month or two.

What kinda camera are you getting?

Thanks Mary! She is at a place where I am going to have to work harder at making it fun. They have their own functional toy cameras, so there is some genuine interest for them...for now.
:)
Cheers,

Hi Kes,
It looks like you will have a great time with your D80. You will get the hang of it in a couple of thousand shots I'm sure :)

Maybe by then you will have some shots that don't come out all blurry and with parts of the head missing :):):) I'm just jealous cause I don't have mine yet :(

Yeah, that's right, Linda! So there! lol! Yes, fall is here, always too briefly it seems. This weekend was probably the time to be shooting and there was other work to do. Perhaps the colors will linger. I think txules was referring to the slight red tint seen in the sky. At least it is on my old monitor (I gotta get something better! Someday!). I have the saturation bumped up on the camera, and like every other setting, need to play around with it to see what works best.

Hi Ray, so well you've put in words how I felt when I reviewed this shot - thank you! Yes, the new camera is nice, however, I don't think it demands the reverence (ok, - time) that film cameras do, such as the rolleiflex in your recent shot. Maybe when I figure this sucker out I'll feel differently about it! heh heh

...on the other hand, if I had used my Rolleicord for this shot, I doubt that I would have allowed her head to be cropped. Until a way is found for me to think faster (har) a method combining part of the concentration of film with the freedom of digital photography will have to be considered.

Enough rambling! Thanks again, and I hope you have a great day my friend!

Well I like it!! So there!! Nice shot of this almost ghostly figure running through the woods, I immediately felt that she was running from something, and quickly tried to think of what it could be, nice element of mystery, and for me it makes this a kind of jounalistic shot and you captured it well, it definitely tells a story, if this were really happening you would capture the moment and you did that, well done Kes! That sky doesn't bother me at all, and I see Fall has definitely arrived with the leaves on the ground and the beautiful Fall colors...a great shot, full of color, light, and interest, enjoy that camera Kes, keep shootin...:) Lin

I love the result you have here Kes and missing the full head is not a big deal. A figment of the imagination would not be complete anyway, would it? It is like glimpsing a spirit of the woods and asking yourself 'did I see something'. A great idea and neatly executed. The Autumnal colours in the woodland glade are beautiful. Have fun with your new 'toy' my friend....isn't it exciting when we get out with our new equipment? Well done Kes....enjoy the D80, all the best.....Ray:)

It was a great test photo, lovely natural light and
colours. The moment is stunning, love she's motion
pose, very expressive. My friend, congratulations for your
new camera and I wish you lots of great moment and lovely
shots with it. Great work as usual! 7/7

Best wishes dear Kes,
Robert

Thanks JD, for that great observation...I'm pretty lazy...I didn't even look at the sky. I also shot some verticle..and one of these days - maybe - it will all fall together!
All the best, my friend! - kes

Oh, yes, I still think about that image of yours (the singer) with the boy playing the homemade stringed instrument....those eyes....

Thanks for the input, Karina. I have some other versions, although this was my initial pick. I'll have to try this again. I wasn't paying too much attention to composition, just trying to figure out how the camera works! :)
Cheers,

I kind of have the same problem (if I understand the Spanish right). Missing the top of the girl. The unsharpness is wonderful.

Yo creo que es una pena que la persona esté cortada...me parece que el encuadre no es adecuado.
