Nothing "faux" about this Karsh. The post processing is spot on, too. It could fit into a Karsh retrospective without any problem at all.

What a superb job you have done on this portrait. I find it most impressive the way you have been able to isolate the subject from the background, and I particularly like the way it blends into the new black background towards the right. Definitely worth pushing the post-processing that extra step. John

The passions of youth! In terms of my idols, I have moved on, although fine technique still holds my regard. As Ben Shahn explains, "The Shape of Content" impels the power of an image even as you suggest in your appreciation of the Hemingway portrait (also a favorite of mine along with some of his lesser-known pieces).
Best wishes as always . . . g

:) amicalement drilan

Ah, drilan, I had to be away to deal with family matters--pleasant ones. After reading the comments on the first post, I resolved to make another try as soon as I returned. Annoying--never! Karsh, by the way, was one of the great photographers I first knew about and admired. Such a distinctive a style and so seeminly unself-conscious. Later, I discovered the variety in his work that yet retained his mark. As a boy I thought, he's the one to make my portrait! Alas, it was not to be. ;-)

Definitely Karshesque...Although I'v never seen the works in person...I'm particularly fond the the Churchhill & Murrow...I think based on only seeing digital images...his photos are generally a bit softer although you have nailed the lighting

Excellent conversion to b/w, George! The background is perfect and tones are very good! Karsh is certainly the master to emulate for b/w portraiture! Dave.
