About Taken of the grand-daughter of a friend. she was totally sweet and very 'into' being photographed - what a pleasure

The goal was achieving a satisfying 'studio' look. I know it's been done before - just not by me : )))

Comments and thoughts are really appreciated - Thanks!

i really like this image, even though it seems to be somewhat soft in focus. i like the positions of her arms as they make the image more dynamic and adds some contrast between her hair and the top she is wearing. congratulations on a wonderful image of a darling model.

Thanks so much for your comments!

Brendon - I always have trouble with hands......ugh!

Honey - I will definitely look for that book!

Rob - thanks - I'll try to keep the weight issue in mind : )

There's so many parts to getting a good shot - thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely be posting more from this shoot!

thanks again....

Lighting is fine -- I think my only comment would be that there's a bit too much weight on the hands. You don't notice it much because she's young. Older people will get wrinkles and facial distortions when this happens. I don't have as much problem with the "hiding" factor because you've framed it nicely around her face and not in front. Great job!

Julia, I agree with Brendon that the composition and the lighting in this portrait is done well. However I have to say that I don't much care for the pose. First let me say that I am extremely critical when I do a critique and I point out what I feel can be improved upon and why. When I do portraits of children, I try to capture their spirit "charm." I think you have her charm,( that would be hard to miss) but as for her spirit, the picture is too stoic. Give her something that she cherishes such as a pet, or fingering a piece of jewelry (She looks a bit old for toys) She likes music I am sure, play some of "Her" music (Not yours.) Don't hide her face with her hands. She is beautiful so show it. I looked at your other pictures of people and you are really doing well. Keep trying. ~Honey. OH btw if you don't already have it go out and buythe book called. Creative techniques for photographing children by Vic Orenstein. It was a big help for me.

Julia. A very lovely young lady. An excellent job of composition and lighting. There is nothing really wrong of the position of her hands, but folding her fingers will be a bit pleasing.
