Great Capture - Easily stands out from the crowd. I like the composition particularly. Nicely done. 8-)

Yep - just stumbled on it by chance. I like compliments 80) but it feels a little fraudulent when taking photos of someone else's work of art..... It was beautiful - I just took a picture of it! Rat

Thanks James. I learned a lot about flash from taking this photo. The top of the shaft was bright daylight, and in other shots, over-exposed completely. This flash combined with 1/250 at F22 or something like that, was effectively only using the flash to light the scene. Even cut out the light from the strip lights behind each opening with bars! Rat

I like the colour in this a lot - I'd have toned down the main sun reflection a wee bit as it draws the eye - but hey - perhaps you wanted that? Good stuff! Rat

Yep - I'm confused too. This was from the Canon G3 in Jpg. I now shoot with the 20D in Raw and then can possibly adjust the saturation and white balance for correct colour.....

Graham, the actual colour in the scene wasn't anything like this cold. I have been reliably informed (in a magazine!) that shooting in RAW allows you to boost the saturation considerably before any ill effect is noticed in the image. I have been noticing that a lot of my images in RAW are a little drab.... Could just be bad captures of course....? Rat

Hi Naomi I do like the contrast between the beauty of the subject and the darkness of the effect! I find it not quite balanced in composition though. (Difficult though, as presumably this is self timed?) Best Rat

Hi Darlene! Did you add any selective blurring to this, or is the stick coming front back enough to get the selective DOF? Which ever it is, incidentally - it's a fantastic capture. And have you got any hints you'd care to share on getting the focus right on quickly enough? You seem to have the hang of it! I seem to spend quite a long time waiting for the EF to decide where to go before I can press the button 8-( Rat

Tolga - I really like this! I hope they bring you more happiness than the One Ring!
In the spirit of critisism.... Perhaps some more light and a greater depth of field more centered on the writing, but with the whole of the rings in focus?
