This is lovely. Could you explain how you achieved the effect? Did you use muslin and backlight it? I would love to try the technique.

This is very nice. Did you use a filter or blur it in Photoshop?

Nice color and skin tones. What did you shoot for film? Kodak Portra?

If this is a product shot the ring should be very sharply in focus. I like my jewelry to really sparkle. Also - the deep color of your background washes out the tanzanite.

Very sweet. You should try to lighten up her face with a photo editing program. I agree that it is difficult to get your child to stay still for a good shot! I like the way her hair is backlit.

Very nice! I would clean up the stray hairs in Photoshop as well as the little white glare on her lip. Other than that - I love it! She has a face worthy of a close up!

I agree with not being afraid of shooting too many pictures! I just have to remember not to run out at key moments! This is a lovely shot. If you had crop it a little tighter to eliminate some of the leg on the right and the arm on the left I think the traditionalist would not have much to criticize with your composition. Excellent choice to use black and white. It eliminates distracting background colors and helps to focus on the moment.

I hope you don't mind - I cropped the image and blurred some of the background for a comparison. Let me know what you think.

Perfect exposure, nice tone, beautiful. It would also be lovely hand colored. Was it for a professional portrait session? If so, I sure the client was extremely happy.

Mark - I would love more info in the "about" section on this one. How did you come up with the concept? Is this their stage look? It definitely grabs my attention. You should have made the bath towel really grungy to fit with the band's look. I'd also like to see more definition in the face at the bottom. Very interesting and fun photo.

How creative! It looks like an old painting. I might like it cropped a little tighter on the top. I love this.

Very nice. I love your subtle use of color with the sepia toning. People often go overboard with the hand colored look. This is just enough.

Rachael - I'll be I can guess who your best friend is! Filler flash would have helped you to show more detail in Holly's face. I find the shadow across her face to be too dark. I would also like to see more sharpness. Cute pooch!

Christian - I played with the cropping for a long time. I just like the way it looked cropped like this. I have attached a less cropped version. Which do you like better?

Hans,
Great photos make the viewer feel something. Even without knowing the full story this picture touched me greatly. It's beautiful. I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through.

God bless you both.

I really love the composition, color, and lighting. I would like to see less shadow on the steps. Beautiful shot!

I like the photo exactly as it is. I immediately thought of Weston. The little curl in the foreground works very nicely with the curve of the stems. It would also be nice in black and white. Beautiful!

I like the image. Great location - I love mossy rocks and natural settings. I think that it would have more impact if you experimented with the cropping, perhaps cutting out some of the legs and the hand at the bottom of the screen. I also agree with the photo editing comment. They both look just a little pale.
