Great photo, Kathy! The flat lighting from overcast sky and the reflective snow cover create very pleasant contrast in both tones and texture. The compostion is very nicely done - especially for those who espouse the "rule of thirds."

Another beauty, Kathy. Striking in all ways, but I especially like the fascinating foreground texture. So many people hibernate their gear when the days grow dark and long and the sky fills with snow. They miss so much! Tim

Wow, what a beautiful scene. Winter is really your season to take photos. I'm so envious. You get to actually see some seasons. It just turned fall here. The leaves are finally turning orange. Kelly

Our Great PNW is so picturesque this time of year when it snows,huh...we rec'd 6" down my way and it is still melting away gradually...kinda slippery right now since still freezing into ice at night... I like the crop and the lighter dusting of snow to define the details...very quaint charm good job,Kathy!.....glad to hear all is busy and going well at the cafe...regards,gayle

Hi Robin, We are now 2 days into the new business, and everything is going pretty well. We have a LOT of kinks to work out though! The community is so excited to have us re-open that there is a bit of a party feeling going on around here. If we didn't have to work so hard Susie and I would probably be having a great time!!! :) Thanks for your interest and encouragement, Robin! Kathy

I have been thinking for sometimes to also leave. Yes, the matter about the moderators is very annoying they do do things the right way. I have seen many pictures unjustly awarded and some really nice and good photos ignored. I also believe that it is partly something moved by jealousy but I'm sure that they are also impartial and that they favorite the work of their friends.Another annoying thing is that UF has been promising changes for some time now and they seem to never happen. In a moment of great disappointment I have decided to take down all my photos and leave/ I tried this begore, not long ago and I went back to posting. This time I will stay away for a very long time, possibly for good. I am sure that it won't be quite a surprise for you.
Sending my best regards to you.
Riny

A beautiful scene Kathy. Just like a Christmas card. The light dusting of snow is just enough to give great detail and defination to all the elements in this image. The barn has nice warm tones and white tree branches have wonderful clarity. A beautiful image. Best of luck with your opening tomorrow Kathy. I know you and Susie will make a HUGE success of the new venture.
Cheers - Ann :)

Thanks Mark! I always appreciate your critiques! I tried cropping this image differently with less of the snowy field in the foreground, but I didn't like the feel of it that way at all. I also had a shot with some other foliage in the foreground, and I didn't like that either. Sooooo, this was my shot of choice! :) Happy shooting!

Very nice Kathy!! Nice composition. The structures add a lot of interest to the shot and also act as a reference to give the trees some scale. Also the geometry of the houses acts as a nice counterpoint to all the natural shapes of trees, etc. I like the texture of the grass in the foreground as well. I might have been tempted to shoot it from a slightly lower perspective and so include a bit less grass so that it's less dominant and also to give the lower half of the image a little more weight (dark is heavier), but on the other hand, maybe not. That's not a critique, I'm just wondering how that would have looked. Nice clarity and lighting/mood. Looks like the sun is about to break out, but the ridge is still a nice silhouette. This is an excellent landscape Kathy, great job!

I think winter scenes are becoming your "thing"...! This is fab-u-lous. I love it. Another calendar photo. This has just a hint of a painterly quality to it which is perfect. Very nice again! (Oh, remember you're supposed to offer them a copy...!) :)

Beautiful, very idyllic! I like how each branch has definition, and each straw on the ground, as well as the individual logs (or boards) of the house! Very sharp and great landscape! Also. I like the warm white tone of the snow and the grey sky, great colors, Kathy! I'm also amazed you got snow up there. We had a mini-blizzard, but it's all clear now. I don't like winter(other than in pictures) - so I'm still not ready for it! But love to see it on the screen, anytime! Great image!
