Thanks for the nice note, Charlie, and welcome back. I admit, the equipment makes me a little better than I deserve. I really liked the expression on this one.

dear mark, nice to meet you. i have been out for quite some time and am trying to catch up with all those new names, styles, pictures, discussions - in vain. there always only will be the day. what a nice encounter and capture. great work. for this summer's holiday trip around europe i had the tamron 28-300 for the first time. i am enthusiastic about it, even more so as i had the 28-200 for such a long time and found it the make of a genius to give us such range at such low weight and price! regards charlie.f.kohn@sixpence-pictures.com // madrid

Mark,
The eye level angle is nice, I love the detail in his hair etc, kind of stands out, is so good!!

very cool mark... cause if you think about it most are shooting up at giraffes... great just for the angle itself...
and he looks like just that..
"you lookin at me?"
with that east coast/chicago accent, huh?
:)

Thanks, Mary. I was actually about 30 yards away and the ground sloped down as it went to him. That made him about eye level with me from where I was. Funny shot!

Michel, I wish I had given it that much thought. The giraffe was about 50 yards from me and I was at full zoom.
Another example of the camera being smart enough for both of us!

I think it is unusual that you used the same technique as for a conventional portrait, except that the subject is a girafe. It looks like it belongs with Jar-Jar Binks, the weird creature in Star Wars. Funny.

Great photo! I love the expression and the composure! It's just unfortunate that the background is so distracting, but I suppose it is hard to get a giraffe to pose in the proper place. :)
