In Sand Sculpture 3, the sculpture spreads to cover the whole base of the photograph, so although there's a lot of empty sky there, the presence of that sky is justified. Here, there's no 'ground' on the left side, which makes the empty space there redundant IMO. That is why I think that a vertical frame would have served you better here. Or, if you had to have landscape format with negative space, the outline angles of the sculpture call for that space to be to the right rather than to the left (as in Sand Sculpture 3). On the other hand, the bottom guy is looking straight to the left, which makes some room there desirable. Still, I would be inclined to crop off the left.
I won't talk about the lighting :-)
