The watercolour effect is pleasing but I think the photo is easily strong enough to standalone without it. Very successful composition and lighting. Maybe a bit of levels clipping on the cheek and brow right of frame that isn't apparent in larger version?
BTW, I didn't edit the Bondi shot other than a simple contrast balance and slight sharpening. The colour effect is mainly due to the long exposure. Unfortunately just after taking this shot I cracked the glass screen on the back of the 10D after tripping in the dark. :(

Very good self-portrait. I like the watercolour effect, you've inspired me to try it. I like the angle and close framing too.
