Actually, the only reason was that there were lots of boats, and if I'd gone any lower they would have messed up the one basic colour of the background. I tried cropping it square, but didn't really like it.
I did take a few horizontal shots, but they were also constrained by ugly stuff I didn't want in the photo. In the end I liked this one the best.

Hmm, maybe I can make it into a book cover...

Audrey this really is beautiful!

I'm still here - haven't looked at usefilm much but this caught my eye, and obviously you've been visiting HK lately! It would be nice to meet up...

Excellent shot! I've yet to get this shot right, no matter how many times I've tried. Maybe I should go over & set up my tripod next to yours and take notes.
When was this taken?

Yes, great pattern John, lov it, but (is it me? - I have just woken up!) seems pretty blurry.

your portraits have an interesting editorial look. I just looked through them - not sure about the ones against the black background, but the rest are really well thought-out - very nice!

Hi Kim, Love this, I see you are using velvia too. One day soon
I'm gonna beg borrow or steal a film camera. In the meantime, I might
try and paint this, if you don't mind. If it turns out okay I'll send you
a photo of the painting of the photo!

Thanks for the comment on my 'comfort' pattern - from looking at your portfolio I can see that it is indeed your kind of photo!

I cant believe you only got 1 comment so far on this. I'd say you've created a beautiful thing from a so-so photo - well done! ( I reversed what you did to see the original)

nice to see you here. (i've added you to my 'friends' for inspiration).

I like the way in the top half all the colours have lost their intensity (due to pollution?), while down the front the pelicans have set themselves up perfectly for this shot. Nice one.

Hi Kim,
Yes definitely looks good enough to eat! I've tried food a couple of times (none I dared put up here though). I think the thing is to get more or less on eye level with the food and use minimal DOF to concentrate on perhaps 1 or 2 asparagus/prawn/whatever.
Gotta go to the deli now....

Just wanted to tell everyone again that this isnt a holga shot - its from my sony digital, and I used a photoshop filter called 'Melancholytron' which simulates the holga 'look'.

Well, I dont know who she is but I like this shot. Love the tenseness in her pose, caught-in-the-headlights look, and the slightly surreal letterbox. Nice first post.
