Nice composition and the pasting creates - as you say interest - and I did not notice it on first sight, I just noticed the extreme Dof and checked the lens information, well with it at 15 that shot looked alright. Knowing more I revisited the pic and it is really done well, only a slight difference in the shade of the brown of the ground may indicate PS work to me. As with the colours I am not sure (as the rest of your commentators). I think shifting the colour balance away from the red may improve the picture - at least on my screen, -a caution I always keep in mind- it looks a little overdone.
