Gorgeous image of the brown pelican Marcus! I love the lighting and the colors are so brilliant! I am always in awe of your bird images, I learn so much from coming here and checking out your exposures (but I can never get them close to what you get!) And these guys are one of my most favorite birds to shoot! We usually get lots of them around january and february just hanging around the numerous bridges we have down near our camp. You would have a ball here in Louisiana, let me know if you're ever in "this area." Darlene

hi, good timing and love the natural setting and details/colors...what a cool looking pelican!
BTW,i knew of area you were born,but not exact town and looked it up...guess what? not only did you n' family leave,but many followed suit since they only had a population of 167 in 2003!That is way up there near the border...

Thanks Den, He actually came in and landed to my left, and was drifting right by me, every so often in a 5 min period he would lift his wings like this, I dint have my remote shutter release so I kept getting shake when I hit the shutter, but F/8 Is actually that lenses sweet spot so i was determined. This was the best of the bunch...

There's something about the pelicans feather when wet that just creates this awesome look, almost reminds me of a wool jacket......I don't know Marcus I just like the look.....

Well you have to give the tripod an outing every now and again dont ya? Hehe. Incredible result Marcus and even with the 1.4X TC the detail is tack sharp. Amazing exposure given that it was overcast and with the TC to get away with 1/250th @ f8. How long did he pose like that for you?
