A very compelling photo, Ina. Dreamy warm light and background with such graphic detail -- like a map of a face and soul.
Cheers, Lee

Thank you for the warm welcome Ina. I've found it a more pleasant experience to look for photographers who give meaningful critiques, generally by sifting through the recent comments. I came across one of yours and decided to look through your work. Hope you don't mind.

As a matter of fact, I'll post one in Modigliani style. She was seated with a friend at a cafe table and saw me taking pictures of a building. We started talking, and I said I was interested in local architectuure, and she said "What about people?" - I said "I'd Looove to take people pictures but feel too shy to ask for permission" - and she said to go ahead and take her picture. I said it'd go on the internet at UF if it turns out good, and she said she didn't mind it a bit!

Ina, I quote from perhaps the greatest photographer of the Amish:
Bill Coleman, in his 1988 book of spectacular photographs, "Amish Odyssey", writes this concerning taking a picture of an Amish woman in a carriage? "I had hoped that the fog and the distance had kept me relatively anonymous. In fact I was certain of it. Yet when the buggy passed, a woman leaned out and said very clearly, ?You have stolen my soul.? The hurt stayed with me a long time. Though I?ve heard it a few times since from others, it is that woman in the fog who stays in my memory."

Hi Ant, I was told that in some cultures people think you're taking away their spirit when you take their picture. I always ask for permission, but don't do it as often as I would like. Yesterday a woman actually asked me (really!) to take her picture and she looked like she walked straight out of a Modigliani portrait. I was so excited, that I took three very bad pictures of her :-( and missed this extraordinary opportunity. Next time I'll be smarter.

Beautifully made Ina. I am very shy when taking photos of people without their consent, so I'd be a useless paparazzo. I experienced this even more keenly when shooting my Amish series because the Amish disapprove of photography and indeed ANY image (Biblical graven image stuff). Willingly consenting to a photo is punishable in that society.

Thank you Robert, I think he was lonely, no other kids to play with at that moment, just a weird photographer (me) :-) I was photographing graffitti and rusty stairs, and he wanted to know why? My best regards, Ina
