About	You've seen part of this photo before as an ingredient in my "Since 1977 (http://www.usefilm.com/image/844947.html) 1492 (no mistake, fourteen-ninety-two) the year of Columbus. The same year those Jews who had not converted to Catholicism or had not been burned as heretics at the stake by the Spanish Inquisition were expelled from Spain. I printed my "Since 1977" and went over to the confectionary that had meanwhile been opened, about one block from my home. I was told that the family, by the name of Levi had been among those expelled from Spain and had lived in Jerusalem for about 500 years. The photo, which now is the logo of the firm, was taken about 100 years ago and the small child in its middle is the grandfather of the current owner.

Wonderful image and inspiring commentary. You might be interested to know that Charleston (where we live now) is the one of the most important sites in the history of Judaism in America. Although not nearly as old or resonant as those you mention, there are many places and records here that attract attention from people around the world. Perhaps you can visit some day. ;-)
