Congrats on the award, Andrea! Cool image, especially with the story behind it and those cars parked there just make the shot! Nice work!

Hello Adrea, my compliments for the BIP. It seems really took 50 years ago. Excellent mood and description of the last hours of MLK
Thanks

Thanks John. I get goose bumps every time I read the Mountaintop speech. I can hear the passion in his voice and knowing what would happen the next day only makes the speech more impressionable.
The lighting in this photo was very limited. I had to rest up on the side of a pole and try to be very still (didn't have my tripod with me). We'd been walking about 4 miles downtown at this point and I was wearing heels (won't do that again). I just knew I wasn't being still enough to get a crisp shot. Fortunately, a few of the photos came out well - many with an amber glow. I liked the grainier black and white look for this particular shot though.
Also, thanks to whoever gave the BIP award! It's much appreciated.

Steven, my husband was a toddler then. His parents have told me stories of the silence other than the National Guard tanks driving behind their home on 240 (Perkins area). I wanted to talk to the woman (Jacquline?), but she wasn't there.

i have often wanted to take the pic of the lady across the street I think her name is Jacqueline Smith. Probably can if one gives her money. I like your choice of b and w on this one. Really creates the sad mood of that night. You may not have been alive then, but i was a senior in High School at Kingsbury. That night the national guard and tanks went up and down the streets as we had a curfew. This shot brings back those memories

Thanks Debashis.
This is the actual Lorraine Motel where Dr. King was shot. They have added the National Civil Rights Museum to the left side of it (where I was standing for the photo). The rest is pretty much the same as it was in the '60s. There is a woman who lives in a tent across the street. She protests the museum being there. She has this photo up as a monument to Dr. King.

Very well done. Memphis has a lot of places to take shots like this of Americana. How did you find this setting with these cars? Very well done.
