It really is unbelievable how two lives can be brought together like that isn't it Chris. It's happened to me a couple of times in railway circles.
This is a stunning image. How you've manged to retain the textures and detail of the white areas is masterful and the clarity of the stamen is outstanding.

Nice story. Good macro to illustrate it. Looks as if a macro lens isn't ABSOLUTELY essential to take good macros.
