About It had taken us longer than expected to find the entrance to this lovely gorge in Crete and so the sun began to set as we descended down towards the sea. This image was caught just before the sun set behind the tall gorge side. The golden light lit up this tree and cast blue shadows on the rock.

I love how you took advantage of the blue cast in the shadows. Very effective composition. Nice to meet another nature lover o:) Andree

Also beautiful colours here! You may make the tree stand out better by adding a little unsharp mask to the digital image. I bet the contrast in the original slide is good enough :-)

I like it! I really haven't got to grips with masking and I must pay it more attention. The image I presented was exactly as it came off the scan with a shallow S-curve applied to bring back some of the contrast. I'll have a go at your technique. Any more tips always gratefully received.

Very nice diagonal composition and, yes, extraordinary luminant blue shade. A very attractive color contrast. I tried a vivid light blended layer mask to enhance this striking contrast, applied the vivid light only to yellow via select > color range (then Layer > Add Layer Mask > Reveal selection).

Fantastic colour contrast - I haven't seen blue shadows quite that blue before.

Stefan, yes you're right on both counts! I like the contrast of yellow on blue and I suppose I unknowingly look for these colours in my landscapes but it takes someone else to point it out to me! It would certainly be a stronger image with a darker background but the sun was already on the edge of the gorge and although the gorge side got darker, the light moved away from the tree. I did wait for a while to see what would happen but this was about as good as it got.

There is a lot of blue and yellow in your portfolio :-) Good stuff, maybe better if the tree could be set off against an even darker background?
