About This long dead tree, amidst a wildflower bloom in California's Joshua Tree National Park was once a part of a General Patton's Desert Warfare Training Center during WWII. The desert has reclaimed the land. The flowers are spectacular this year.

Hey John, how bout you and me meeting up there at the same time to say hello since we seem to be the only ones who have done some serious photography there.... Great shot. Laurie

Hey John,
Glad to see you made it out there. I took a few shots of this tree as well. Most of mine were shot where the concentration of Lupins were the largest. That rock shot you commented on was only about 1/2 mile back up against the mountains.
Looks like we both got some good stuff. Like the shot that includes the photographer as well.
Take care. Heading to Arizona on Friday to try and catch some blooms there!

ON my next summer trip to your neck of the woods I will have to stop here and redo the image. Its only about 6 minutes off Route 10. Maybe Ill split the image before after. As I told the park rangers, "If I hadn't been here before in the summer, I'd think this was a great place to live!"
Thanks for looking. JB

The positioning of any singular item in a photograph is always a matter for reconsideration. I will not lose sleep over this one though, the better image is still in the can as it were. I shot film as well and the film shots were a few minutes later and were graced with sun the improved the scene IMHO. Thus I will get to argue the composition again in a few days or a week.

This is really beautiful, John. I always like the colour rendering and image quality of the Digilux in your hands. Interesting "about," too. I did wonder if the tree is a bit too centrally placed. But perhaps moving it off to one side is a bit of a cliche?

A golden paradise now but in a couple of months it will look so different. It is a wonder what a little moisture will do. The flowers look like they are ready to cushion the fall of this old tree. Nice work. Don.
