Neil I have a bunch ! Two years ago I went to the Deisel appreciation weekend held between Duluth and Two Harbors Minnesota. Its on an old section of track now used for a tourist train. about 3 miles from my place is the old Depot which is a museum not with lots of old trains and cars to tour. On this weekend they would pull the trains out on to trestles and park them for pictures. I got some !! Glad to meet you here ! jimc

Deny Did I ever tell you about when I was in charge of the signal repair crew on the local line that hauled from the mine to the shipping port ? Had my own highrail and 50 miles of track to care for. jimc

Marilyn Yes the train was moving about 45 MPH is what they travel. I zoomed down from 200 MM and panned at the same time, I have a series of abut 8 shots. one is broadside showing the crossing sign blurred and the train in focus. you see the panning effect on it. Juat a fun shot I took for Denny. I have another one to post later showing 3 engines coupled together because they need the power, they take forever to stop ! thanks for the comments jimc

Wow Jim, thanks so much for this dedi. Those locos you have over there always give the impression of awesome power. Having seen the length of some trains and the terrain they travel I can understand why they have to couple 2 or more locos together. You have retained fabulous detail in this shot considering the speed. It looks like a fairly bright day to give you a decent shutter speed. Hand held I presume. I've got to practice panning with the King Cobra. Slightly different technique required as I have to take steps around the tripod instead of swivelling the body. Thanks again for the dedi my friend. Den

Got a rather soft place in my heart for trains too -- spent many a vacation riding and following tracks. This is so clear and manages to get detail in the dark black shadows as well as the sky. PRETTy!
