About I my first two uploads I showed pictures of the dog team in focus. when this team came up the hill, I decided To focus on the Musher, Something caught my eye, I can't really place it. Photographers instinct or whatever.
Seriously this is Billie Diver. She is from Cloquet Minnesota about 20 miles west of here. She Tips the scales at a whopping 15 years old.
Bear in mind, when it gets dark, the mushers keep going, The stopped at their planned layovers and at the mandatory layovers, I think there is a 4 hour and an 8 hour mandatory.
So about 3 hours after this photo was taken this young lady was cruising through unknown territory in the dark, with just a small headlight on her head to light the trail.
When I used to be involved in the race, I can remember waiting in the middle of nowhere at some lonely crossing waiting for the next team. I can still remember straining to see into the blackness. Then suddenly like a ghost, bobbing light coming through the darkness untill they got close enough to hear the dogs breathing and the creaking of the sled runners on the frozen snow.
Its a race of wills with a big dose of chess thrown in for good measure.
Hope you enjoy this shots. and if you can figure out why i focused on the musher instead of the dogs let me know.
You only have a few seconds, must be instinct.

Here is an update, Billie finished the 150 (mid distance) race Mnday afternoon in a little over 24 hours.

Wonderful photograph and a fantastic about Jim - what stamina, I thought it was hard work doing a 48hour amateur radio contest in the warm !!!!

Incredible sport and she still looks refreshed and ready to carry on :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

Wow Jim, that girl has got some guts and stamina. This is such a great shot of her I bet she'd like a print of this. Spot on choice of main subject here.

Amazing what people can do, at any age, when they set their minds to it, Jim! Great portrait of Billie at her favourite activity! I hope you can get a print to her.

You have a great series on the Bear Grease race, Jim. The "about" that you posted with the pictures is informative and entertaining. I like this shot in particular for the color and movement. A heartfelt Well Done! for the whole series. Larry

It's very nice, and interesting! My first feeling was that I found it a bit strange with focus only on girl and not the dogs. But after I read your interesting text around it I realise that actually it makes it more original! And I guess it's never wrong to be original when it's about photography! :-)

Great to see a sharp shot of the 'musher' and what an appropriate name!!
15 you say? Amazing! Great courage and spirit!
Not sure about the answer to the challenge though Jim!
Was it her teeth?!
Best regards, Chris

Jim perhaps at this moment the subject became the musher, not the dogs ?
none the less...excellent.
