The flower macro is incredible on it's own Chris but the sky gives the image so much punch. Great PS work.

It's a long time ago since I first put this image together, Lily, so I'm afraid I can't be sure about how I selected the background. Normally I use the wand selection tool in PS and then deal with any more complex areas with a fine eraser or by using a layer mask. It can be a bit laborious but it does mean you can get rid of everything you don't want!

I love these vines with their huge flowers. Excellent composition. beautiful blue sky and flower. The framing is also very creative with its gradient.

I can't tell that this is a composite image which brings me to my question: Chris, How do you go about selecting complex images like these? There are no artifacts or tell tale signs that this flower has been through PS. I can understand the petals but the middle looks like trouble.

Oh it's so beautiful, Chris! Love everything about it!!! (Well... except from the frame colour that I would prefer black, white or a colour that exists in the photo). But I love how you composed this, and the sky behind is super!

It's a lovely shot of a beautifull flower. I would have prefered another background though... a 'calmer' one. Perhaps something 'transperent' as in your previous upload. You can try to turn the background into 'negative'..and perhaps add some different colours to it..just to see what works best. BUT..I think you did a great job.. and I'm looking forward to more creative stuff from your hand/ computer..
Hugs..
Merete

This is really a beauty Chris-- nice work. The blue petals complement the sky so well and the central stamens provide great detail and area of interest. What happened to the D70? Cheers. Craig

Chris it must be awful to be without your D70 and so long to be without it, however, if it means you producing wonderful creative compositions like this - we are all in for a real treat. I think this is real award winning stuff, fabulous

I'm afraid it developed some kind of intermittent focussing problem, Pawel. Sometimes it just wouldn't lock on to the subject and would struggle to focus. Sometimes the mechanism vibrated, too. It's left me feeling as though a part of my right arm has been cut off!
Thanks for your comment,
Chris

Thank you, Mats.
You're right ~ this is a composite image. I liked the flower (and the angle) very much, but its setting was pretty bland, so I dropped in a sky!
Kind regards, Chris
