hey jim!! i also had the same choice ( don't know if it applies to the canon ) as i had this model or the 70-200 with vibration reduction etc at £500 extra - i settled for a monopod to steady myslef but thats because i didnt have the funds lolol. The lens itself is great though what i'm finding is that because of the crop, i don't really have an 80-200 but a 130-300. This means i keep having to change to my 18-70 for closer work - otherwise i don't think it would leave my cam!!let me know how it goes - btw you seen the new canon 10mm?

Nice Stu, how you like your new outfit. I like the lens. Canons version the 70-200 F/2.8 is on my shopping list. I just need to decide if an extra 4 or $500.00 is worth the image stabilization feature in a lens and of course I need to gather the funds from the piggy bank.
