Beautiful capture, Barry. Very lovely; one of my favourite clusters. My digtial camera takes only to 64 seconds so I am not able to really get into astrophotogarphy. I can get nice constelation shots. Through my scope, I have managed some decent Moon shots which I posted. Mary -

Barry,
Great job. At my "dark site" I am still a bit too close to New York City and the megapolis of the eastern seaboard of the US to get as good contrast between the faint nebulosity and the relatively light sky background to get as good an image on film.

Ian, yes the two exposures help reduce noise. I'd normally do at least four exposures and as many as sixteen as noise is reduced by a factor equal to the square root of the number of images. However, the batteries ran out after two exposures and it was damned cold so I packed in while the going was good!

Gorgeous, Barry. Is the dual exposure for removing noise? Called Mataariki by the maori in New zealand by the way, rise in june and mark the start of their year.

hello barry.. amazing shot.. i love the astronomy and this one is my old dream.. agreat catch and exposure! very very good.. ùhave captureed a perfect "nebulosity" on star.. only with the long long long exposure have this effect, also the the movement of earth spin is followed perfectly. have bloccked a perfect atmospehre and poetry. IMHO.. perhaps more sky for being balanced lacks only the inferior part. cheers roby 7
