About Took this shot earlier this summer while stalking this guy at a nearby pond. He had just been shaking his feathers to remove water i think.

WOW...Jim this is just beautiful, such incredible detail!
Composition is perfect, (I won't worry about the toes), I especially like the darker tone in right upper side, feathers on this bird are amazing!
very nice,

Lori ;)

With the 300mm this was about 30 yards maybe ??.
Usually they do boggie when you get close. This bird was at a pond about a mile from here. The pond was being drained and sterilized. College kids had been dumping thier Koi and Goldfish in the pond at the end of the year, This resulted in joggers being attacked by giant fish , Whoa wait a minute, I got carried away. Anyhow the pond was easy picking for Shore birds. after all when you approach a well stocked buffet table don't you drop your guard at bit ?? In the wild I experience the smae frustrations you do. Your shot of the heron landing is outstanding, Just carry the camera and never lay it down, therein is th secret.

Spectacular Jim. Amazing detail. How close did you manage to get to him? As soon as I get anywhere near they leg it so I have to be content with long shots cropped.
