About I had a big clear out and clean up this morning. Took everything off my desk/workspace, dusted it, cleaned it, chucked out the rubbish, then put it all back a little differently. I need to repeat the exercise on other parts of my office ~ 'stuff' builds up so quickly!!

That experience, together with a perceptive and helpful comment from Peter de Rycke, has made me think about my input to Usefilm. My portfolio is getting ever larger and I need to do something about it! I'm also trying to keep up with an ever-growing number of friends' images!! I just felt I had to do something about it before it completely took over my 'free' time!!

So, I came to the decision to load up just one picture a day ~ max!! And, also, to comment on just one each of my 'friends' images per day! The second half of the decision is going to be harder to stick to than the first, but I feel I have to do it before I go crazy trying to think of variations on 'nice photo' or 'beautiful image'!! I shall still take a look at more, just not necessarily say anything.

I hope you understand my reasoning. I appreciate ALL my UF friends, and would love to have the time to comment at length on every image they load, but it's just not possible any more.

So, it's one a day, for me ~ I'll try and make it a decent one!

Best regards to all,

Chris

Delightful dignified countryimage Chris. Completely understand your decision. It does become difficult and I find also that in no time I am so far behind in comments that I spend hours just catching up let alone try to comment on some of the other fine images on this site. One photo a day works better for me too as well as giving our friend's a break on their commenting. I hate being brought to the point of delivering 'drive-by' comments so I second your emotion.

Stunning colours, Chris, and I really admire the compositional skills you show throughout your portfolio. Your photos really make me miss the west country. I live in London suburbia now, but went to university in Bath. I hope one day to move back there, but in the meantime I can look forward to your "one a day" and dream of being far from the M25 catchment area.

Chris, one Spraklen per day is just fine. I agree it can get a little obssessive at times ;-)
I eased back a couple of months ago and it does work wonders.

Chris, I am about at the same point as you. It seems that I spend too much time looking and with just short comments that don't mean much. You always have such great well worked images. It takes time to do the well. This one has such a great intense blue sky. Well composed as usual. Don.

Good thinking Chris, I have often wondered how you found the time to post so many pics and comments, let alone take photographs.regards.

Believe me, Merete, I couldn't agree with you more!! Every time I come on to Usefilm, I look at other people's pictures, (not just my 'friends'), and I very rarely open a thumbnail without leaving a comment. Sure, there are many excellent photographers exhibiting on this site and I don't want to narrow my viewing just to my 'friends'?

But the people on my 'friends' list are important to me. They are either people whose work I especially admire and relate to, or people who have been especially encouraging and helpful to me ~ or both! (You, of course, are one of these special people whose talent I particularly admire!) Therefore I choose to make them my priority in terms of views and comments.

Don't worry, I still have a passion for photography and making decent pictures ~ I hope I never lose that! It's just that I was putting myself under pressure to comment on everything my 'friends' uploaded and suddenly realised that was a bit dumb!!! ;-))

So thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate your concern and friendship very much.

Best regards,

Chris

I think...that this 'friend-thing' is silly anyways. If you're starting looking at your friends pics first..and it takes all your time to comment each...how can you ever get time for looking at all the wonderfull photos other people have made???
Sure I look at my 'friends' photos, but I always take my time to scroll down the photo pages and always takes my time for commenting what I find interesting. Otherwise my photo-world would be abit narrowed.
Take it easy on the 'friend-thing'...enjoy each time you have time for going on here...and relaxe about when you take the next wonderfull shot! The inspiration will come back...the thrill and passion. Don't ruin your passion for this with making it into an obligation... that would be so sad...... :-/
I know that life is filled with obligations and sometimes we feel overwhelmed by it, but my experience is, that you got to stick to your passion and do what YOU like...otherwise you'll only be half a human being. Perhaps this is not what you want at the moment..and that's quiet ok! Infact..it's just great that you make choices and change what's bothering you... no big deal for us...but it can means alot to you...and your happiness...so... take your time...DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPYYYYYYYYYYYYY...

Cheers
Merete

I read with interest your "about" and i think you are right. I have spent a lot of time trying to comment on each persons every shot. i too have a lot of friends and its time consuming. So to respond to your About, i say good idea.

Chris I can relate with you completely - it becomes very difficult and time absorbing. But again like you I love to look and learn from friends and others.

Another wonderful landscape photo Chris, lovely colour and detail.

Best wishes,
Steve

Very beautifull one Chris!
Also if you don't mind, may I suggest that it doesn't even need to be one a day, it can be one, two, or three whenever you have free time and feel like sharing something.
