Richard, I unhesitatingly recommend the 21/4, it's my "best" lens--a real gem. You might find the 25mm lens easier to get used to, though. (It's not rangefinder coupled, but that's hardly a problem with such a large depth of field). The 4mm difference is surprisingly large in terms of splayed verticals and exaggerated perspectives! Just as the 25mm itself is quite unlike a 28mm lens.
To answer your question, Japanese "characters" do often have pseudo English names.

Hi Roger-- and thanks for your very complimentary comments on my "Lonely" photo. Your description "desolate" was also a word that came to mind when I titled it.
I seldom find your photos to busy, rather I usually see them as rich in detail. They work because all the details are relavent to the photo, and this one is no exception-- front to back color and a wealth of detail for the eyes and mind to survey. I enjoy your "slice of life" photos from Japan. Cheers. Craig

And THAT shows how cultures are different. Does "Lucky" mean you found some good food, or you are lucky if you can taste the pre-processed, pasturized, homogenized, flash frozen, plastic flavored nutrient mix? Cheers - JB

I have always enjoyed the Japanese style of advertising. It looks like you've got all the elements covered here. Too bad the young lady didn't cooperate by facing the camera.

I think I'll pass on the TV dinners, Roger! I like the color and vertical format. Good PJ. The 21/4 is what I am considering for my next purchase for the T 101. I picked up a cheap, old 135/4 Canon Serenar. I will use it where it's liabilities will turn into assets . . . portraits.
I notice one of the lovable characters is named "Lucky" in English, not Japanese language. Is that common these days?

Such a big contrast to your last image, Roger, this one's a riot of colour! But all the ingredients of a good photo are plain to see: perfect control of light, excellent d.o.f., and plenty of interest from front to back. Kind regards, Chris
