About It's about time to post something else than my ever continuing triptyches. Not to worry, The next triptych is already finished....;o)

The poor quality is due to a really bad scan, and other than resizing no PS work is used. I even left the dust specs and grain untouched, as I think it fits with this image.

Your comments, as always, are appreciated!

Another difference is, that I will refrain from an elaborate comment about technicalities and abouts. I'll leave it up to you and your imagination to see and feel what you like in this shot.

Cheers,

Hugo

Interesting and powerful, looks like hell has mechanized due to high volumn...must be working as the waiting bench is empty.

Oh what a different and original capture! It's very good, but scary! Feels like being trapped in a machine room that is on fire... actually a VERY scary feeling!

Hi Carmem, I just marked your comment as "Excellent". Not only do I appreciate your sincerity, but it's exactly the kind of feedback I value highly! And I share your amazement about the comments I've received.... Thanks!

So, it?s a game. I don?t what is more remarkable: if the shot, or people reaction: from an automatic "magnificent" (!?) to comments exalting the quality of the image.
I?ll be honest, may I? I like the game.. but not the photo. Just the light coming to light.. something I have difficulties in registering... nothing more.
The game shows to me there are many people that are here to "play comments". Sorry for that. Except for the brazilian Janousek, who has some works like this... I can?t believe in many comments I see here.
The title is indeed suggestive. Everyone is in judgement. It shows me how clever you are. And increases my admiration for you.
Hope you don?t mind.. and I know you don?t: like me, you love sincerity. I?m sure.
Cheers, my friend!
Carmem

Hi Hugo,

WOW!! What a strong bold image this is! I love it, I REALLY DO!! And the PERFECT title for this one, couldn't possibly be better!

Whatever this is (and I'm not sure, it's not familiar to me) it is HOT AND POWERFUL!!

The beams of light coming from this which are catching the dust, are fantastic.

Love the depth of the color tones. EXCELLENT!!!

And just how did this one slip by me since the 14? I don't know! And you also have up yet another one that I havne' seen yet.

Nice work Hugo, this one I really like a lot!
Lori :)

A powerful, dark (in spite of the light from the pit) and menacing image. The hell mouth has been opened with the archaic piece of machinery and demons will spring forth. The bench is an anomaly.

I don?t think that the quality is bad, this is not a common and comfortable place, the grain, the blur and the overexposed lights are perfectly suitable for this kind of shot, they add a touch of unreality to a damned, dangerous and real place, sometimes we forget that there are a lot of people that must work in so hard places. Bye Max

Hello Hugo! It's very strong image! Olmost I can feel (and smell ;) ) "hot" of melted steel. Very creative photo. Chers.

Hi Hugo,

the bench gives an interesting surrealistic effect... the waiting room for hell? I am glad to see it is not very busy there :)

You said you did not work on the grain or dust specs... I am not sure whether dust specs (on the negative) 'fit' to this image... anyhow, they are not very disturbing. And removing (some of the) noise would not change the impact of the image that much, I guess. But it deserves a better scan :)

regards, Hermen

Dear Hugo,

title is really dramatic, eh? =)
really weird & scary situation. the technical stuff on the left gets kind of couterparted by the seats in the foreground. the diffuse light crawling out of the back is well captured.

technically, you mentioned the poor quality. I'm not sure why you didn't work on it using neatimage or other stuff. no interest? no time? would you just stress the subject part?

waiting for the next triptych. =)
take care,
thilo

hugo, i'm surprised both by the photo and some of the reactions. to me it's plain that this is a steel plant, a foundry, or some-such. looks like a steel press, no? the odd bit here (as a few others have mentioned) is the bench. like you said, i guess the workers need to sit every now and then but couldn't they do it a bit further away from the slag? ;^)

i'm curious about a few things: a) did you wear an asbestos suit to shoot this?; b) how did the camera survive? must not be a plastic D100 ;^) and c) how did the film survive this heat?

as to the photo: i like it very much. objectively, it takes me somewhere that i've always wanted to visit but never had a chance. upclose anyways. subjectively, i like the inclusion of the bench which adds tension. i also like your exposure. it brings out the light from the slag and combines with the steam (dust?) to produce a very cool and unusual flare. my first thought was that you used f/22 but i see that i was wrong. my tendency would've been to underexpose this until the slag was "subdued" and became the main element. obviously not the better choice ;^)

take care,
tom

Hi Hugo,

Thanks once more for your visit/usefull words. I hope to improve my photography in the near future :)

I like this photo. But if it was mine, I think I wouldn't like it as I do now.

First of all, it seems that you were inside a mine, there was an explosion... maybe in a theatre (I see a chair). As others said, steelplant?

Second, all that light, dust... you were quite near, near to danger. It looks a very difficult journalistic moment. I like that feeling a lot!

Now, I can't say much more.

I hope that with your "elaborate comment about technicalities and abouts" we can understand this photo better than now.

Keep it up, my friend,

Cheers

I like very much the blurry effect of the "fog" coming out. Really emotional.
You can feel the hot blast!

I hope to see you on my last personal project (Mr.M life) in my usefilm portfolio. It started yesterday after a "prologue" of some weeks ago. I'm promoting it in all the possible ways ;-)
It's quite dynamic so any comment or suggestion on what you would like to know about Mr.M is welcome. In the "About" you will find more details on this "reality slideshow" :-))

Bye

Great capture of the extreme heat - I like the noise and dust.

hello Hugo,
very different picture,I think that you added noise or some other texture in some part of it that adds a lot to the picture.
It's very beautiful in color, I don't if you tried it but I think it would be beautiful in B&W too.
very beautiful picture with tension.
cheers,

Judgement day !!!! Nice change Hugo ;) The most attractive element is the BENCH am not sure why is not facing the other way! in term of photography this is called open theme imaginary, each person look at it different way, as it is judgement day this is produce excellent interpretation, although love to see it in B&W. well done again worth suffering the excessive heat I hope you?ve taken it in winter. Yes,I can imagine purgatory exactly like this presentation here...and I at once connected your title with this theme. The effect on me is eery, and rather sinister, the only thing, that gives some comfort to me,is that bench in the foreground...though ot looks like a waiting
bench...
And thanks alot, that you do without any phototechnical details...so it`s much easier for me..and I appreciate it a lot!
Have a nice sunday,Ursula

Hi Hugo, as has already been said... this is a powerful image. I'm not sure what it is and i too thought of a steel plant. I think the title is fitting for the image.
On a technical point of view, i'm not a fan of the chroma noise in the middle right of frame but the dust doesn't worry me. All in all a pleasing photo.
Best wishes - Neil

Hi Hugo - great capture of a steelplant, the closest one will ever get to hell's gate on this earth, and I think you got pretty close here!!. Amazing that you can keep the wiring and other stuff in the right side so sharp, and still have the flares and the corny bit comming through so well.
Outstanding picture 7++
