Very dramatic Tim and Congrats for 'Donor Image of the Day' even though you have left that status lapse. I guess you spent way too much on that Helicopter and still haven't fully recovered financially ... LOL! :))

the helicopter paid off tim. have wanted to do such a thing myself but havent been able to justify the cost to myself for some reason (altho i have no idea how much this might cost in china). if i knew i could get shots such as this, i'd go for it.... good earth tones here. well done.

Tim,

Sell me some prints! Honest, you should consider this.

Awe-inspiring. The scale of the place takes my breath away!

yeah its pretty expensive here too. Around $850-1000 an hour....but I could only do 25 min worth at this time.
Well I know the feeling, I'm no fan of the city as you know it really sucks the energy out of me. Fortunately we will be moving to a great little island up the coast of Canada.
So hang in there.
Good luck, Tim

WOW! My heart is longing to break out of the city.
This is a real good one!

I hope you don't have to pay 1500$/hour like we have. Otherwise you either crash land out of spite or go broke :)

Tried both and still am here. And, hey! Be careful dangling your feet out. :)

Keep up the good work!

Hi Roger, as an ex-mountaineer and rock climber i know what you are talking about...the ole knees are totally shot and i'm happy to walk without pain. Any way i got the chopper all to myself for $350 (Canadian) for 30 min. Next time i'll share with a friend for half of that! So happy birthday and enjoy yourself!
Cheers, Tim

Egads! Why not try selling some photographs!! This one is a beauty. Since I got arthritis the mountains have been off limits to me, well, except ones that have ski-lifts going up them. This shot makes me long for the mountain-top experience again! Beautiful. Evocative. HOW much did the helicopter ride cost? I have a birthday in a few days... Adding this photo to my favourites will have to do for the time being.

Your landscape photos are rather breathtaking. I love this shot-seems that the mountains go on forever. I also had a look at your website-and I see that your talent does not end with photography. I esp. liked the Low Tide, Northwester, and Afternoon Glow(the lily pads are amazing I had to really look because they seemed to be real).

Well the D70 is a great camera. Just look at your last three posts, compare to the earlier coolpix shots. And Coolpix is no slouch by any stretch !! The image quality is really somthing. I have a D70 , I bought the body only cuz that was all that was available, I have to buy the lens that came with it. I have been that impressed. So shoot on my friend you got the eye, now you got a great camera. BTW, i have a d100 as well i bought 2 years ago. So far I like the 70 better and its 1600 less than the list on the 100 was. So that means the 70 will be 500 bucks in 2 more years..
good light to you !!

Hi Jim, yes the chopper cost was kind of steep and the pressure to come up with good photos while directing the pilot to where you want him in the sky was a stressful experience. And to boot I bought the camera 2 days before and was not used to it. Never the less I was very happy to come out of it with 166 images in 12 min of shooting. The Nikon D70 performed without a hitch. I would recommend it totally from my experience.

Tim

Congrates on getting FD today. and Congrates on doing what so many of us would like to do. hire airpower to get us where nobody else can get. this is a dynamite image. Fantastic color and what a great comp. earth tones all the way out to haze at infinity. well worth the cost of the ride.

We took a heli trip in 2000 out of Canmore around The Three Sisters. Impressive is not the word. The mountains then were still snow covered but I must say this shot has a lot more interest due to the differing colours of the peaks. Where was it taken? On our trip I was doing video and the stills from that are not sharp enough to post on UF.
