About
This is the the tenement building my family lived in for 20 years. Cold water flat, 3-9'x12' rooms and the toilet in the hall. No central heat ( we had a small space heater) in the winter and we had one 10" fan in summer. I left there when I was 19 to join the USMC in September of '65. It still stands today surrounded by new architecture. It is the only building left from that time period. I like to visit there as it humbles me. we were poor but there was a lot of love that saw us through, my parents ,two brothers and I. Our claim to fame was the street had our last name "North". The color scheme of the building was to reflect the name of the bar beneath our bedroom, The Red Rooster. It also reflects the passion we had to rise above those times. By God's grace and a lot of hard work and education we did. I just wanted to share it. God bless.
