great! now this is my kind of photo. a total "nonsense" image which is probably a meaningless shot, but still demands attention and appreciation. the composition, the colors, and especially the off-the-wall'edness make this shot a truly special one. sometimes losing inhibition leads to wonderful work. thank you pale ale, and thank you tom for the beautiful result.
btw, what kind of pale ale does mr. rumland prefer?

The bigger question is... why an orange? The even bigger question is.. why no vodka with the orange?
everything is pretty much in a single plane and level from the lens perspective. It really lacks any point of interest, other than the orange. What is a perfect orange doing next to a rusted piece of active rail?
But, I kind of like it too. Maybe it's the pure orange next to all that oxidized iron and dirty gravel. ??

"Orange track and orange" - definitely a new concept. I think that the rigth amount of alcohol in your blood actually will help you hold steady - at least in the 1/15 s range :-) I like it, but I liked it better when I thought it was a sunrise shot :-)

Thank you for brightening up my day! It is VERY dark and VERY wet in Tokyo as I write this. The skyscrapers are lost in the clouds, and there is no respite in view as we plunge head-first into the 'wet season'. But I do get the joy of seeing the red glow of a setting sun reflected on a steel rail track (taken at a rather jaunty, head-spinning angle), and a wayward orange lost along the bank! A remarkable still life and a wonderful story - sleep well!

hi hugo, thank you! i figured you would appreciate the "process" ;^) actually, i forgot to mention, the pub session started at 11AM or so. this is actually a sunset shot. i had my camera with me since, when i left the house, i wasn't planning an all-day-drunk ;^) it's one of those that "just happens".
btw, i too am pretty surprised that i held the 1/15. specially since i could've just as well shot it at f/5.6 or f/8 and bought myself some stability ;^) i guess alcohol doesn't mess with your muscle memory, huh?

Hi Tom, Couldn't suppress a ear to ear grin when I read your explanation... You must've taken this shot very early morning, then, looking less focused at first but came out perfectly to your own surprise?
Very original shot. The low light is amazing, and I love the perspective and the composition. For a second I wished the orange wasn't there, but it sure adds a very good eyecatcher. I need to be very pissed if I have to draw a straight line, and I guess you need a few too....;o) Excellent tones, too! Managed to keep the camera steady at 1/15'... Impressive, considering the circumstances.... )
But why bring a D100 to a bar? That decision must've been taken sober....;o) I always take a camera, except when I'm going out for a "few". When I've had just about enough, I blame myself for not bringing it, but the next morning I can pat myself on the back for having taken a wise decision the night before when I see it's still spotless....)

You know, I like the color combination and connection from the orange to the rusty reds and oranges in the track...and I like the slight perspective of the track going away.
