About I got rid of the blue groundsheets and the cherry blossum to concentrate on the PEOPLE. Thanks for encouraging me to start this, Roger. Maybe I'll get to individual portraits, eventually...

Hmmmm, I know I'm expected to like B&W photos better than colour ones, but here I'm not fully convinced that the conversion was needed all that much. Colours tend to be distracting when there's too many of them distributed chaotically throughout the scene - but this is not the case with the colour version of this particular photo. Let's count: blue groundsheets, blue benches, the couple on the left have blue jeans and the guy also has a blue (more or less) shirt and is holding something blue in his hand, the group on the right features (more or less, once again) blue shirt, trousers and pullover, there's a person lying on the ground in the background who also has blue jeans. All in all, blue totally dominates the foreground, and thus does not stand out in a distracting manner. There's a trace of red far in the background, but red and blue go well together. And that's about it - there's no conflict between the colours, and thus no strong need to remove them.

I should stress that the above thoughts do not mean that I consider this B&W version bad, I'm simply saying that the colour version was already good as well.

The crop was more to my liking in the colour version. I prefer the extra headroom of the original post, as well as the extra context.

Williams San,
Much better than previous one.
I can understand what you want to say for individual 3 groups !!
Regards, Koichi

Charming park scene Roger! And for me, It's better like this without the blue sheets standing out so much.

Hey Roger,
Great image here so many contrasting moods in the people all so close together. The panaroma view also looks great

Very nice street scene Roger, the guys obeserving the love couple and the dozing woman. Wonderful in a panorama view. Congrats, Rob.

Thanks, Carmem. I liked the colour one first, but then I thought those blue groundsheets were a bit too strong. They are less obvious in B&W. You're right about people being hard to photograph, though! I find it very difficult... This may be my best effort so far.

Photographing people is not a easy work... but you got a powerful image, here!
But I had a look in your portfolio and I?ve found a color version.. I love colors, Roger, I like that more... Anyway, it looks nice in B&W, too.
Congrats!
Carmem

Rog it looks great, you haven't taken a photograph here you have taken a short movie. I like it this way but I also agree with hugo I think you may have three shots here. But the more I look at it this way it makes for a very interesting shot...maybe you should try zooming in on some of these folk...good one rog and thanks for your kind words.

Roger, I"m impressed. I love this type of work and attempt it myself every so often and you've done a superb job with catching the essence of their thoughts with hardly seeing their faces. I want to see more.

Roger; this is a really nice use of the panorama effect-- so many interesting things going on in this group of people. And in this photo I can really see the benefit of UFs new (bigger) dimensions for panorama type photos. Nice work. Thanks for your generous comments on my Anemone photo-- I'm pleased with it because the original digital file had a lot of surface glare that I was able to remove w/PSP 8.1, and yes, it printed very nicely. Cheers. Craig

Hi Roger, yes I think the guys have hit the nail on the head here, there are 3 individual groupings of people which somehow don't sit together. Almost as though they were taken at different times. Now theres an idea - same bench, three exposures, the layers in PS.....

wheres my tripod ;-)

Hi Roger, Good use of B&W. Very effective, and a nice overview. I like the crop, but there's a bit too much going on for my taste. I think this shot would compose about 3 different photos, and a very good opportunity for a triptych, as the setting is the same, but the atmosphere of all three scenes is very much different. The fact of captureing them together does provide a very intriguing shot, and a very good contrast of atmospheres, but it also creates a bit of a confusing scene. Hope you see what I mean.

Cheers,

Hugo

Kind regards, Chris

Lots happening here.
The eye goes back and forth, stoppping at each little group.
Really makes you want to know more about these people.
