About This photo isn't really so artsy, but I think I was witnessing this hummer in a mating ritual, where he would momentarily puff up his feathers. In this case he's actually facing the camera more or less, with his beak in the middle of his "moustache." Anyone seen this? I couldn't identify his type, either.

I haven't seen this, but I think that's a Costa's Hummingbird if it's deeply purple, Anna's Hummingbird if it's more of a ruby-red color. Hard to tell with the way their feathers shine sometimes! But I lean toward Costa's :) Awesome capture! Hummers are so full of attitude and personality for their little size!

Nope. It's a real scene. I just heard from someone on another forum who had seen exactly the same thing up in WA.

Never ever have I seen such a thing, are you sure you didn't stage this? Interesting!
