From the look of things you've created a mask to select and lighten the foreground. The coloring doesn't look natural given the contrast and brightness of the background. To me this is a PS redflag. It all depends on individual style, but I think the best PS work is when you can't tell or have a very tough time telling. The background lighting is fantastic. I think I'd try using a graduated ND filter to get this right. PS alone won't get the foreground levels you're after more than likely.
